STUDENT BEHAVIOUR

It is important for students to respect themselves (their body, their mind, their possessions, their surroundings), as well as respecting others (e.g. parents, friends, other students, teachers, principals, school staff, visitors to the School, other adults). General respect at Damla College will include:

 

  • obeying School Staff instructions in a courteous manner;
  • offering help and guidance to school visitors;
  • extending due courtesy to all visitors to their classroom;
  • politely acknowledging a known adult when met outside the classrooms;
  • displaying good manners to the canteen volunteers;
  • Students who travel by public transport are reminded to:

- offer their seats to elders,
- keep their voice and conversation to a tone and topics which are acceptable to other members of the public,
- remember that they are a reflection of their School to the wider community.

 


Damla College students are also required to meet the following expectations:

  • Respect the School property
  • Respect other people's property;
  • Not interfering with or removing any property belonging to others;
  • No spitting at any time;
  • Maintaining a clean and tidy school environment - students are expected to pick up any litter when they come across within the school grounds;
  • Reporting any accident or damage involving themselves or other students to the nearest teacher immediately;
  • Be remindful of the safety of their fellow students and caring for new and younger students.

 

 

Students are not allowed to bring the following items to school:

 

  • any metal rulers, pocket knives, sheath knives, BB style pistols/guns or any weapons of any kind;
  • any magazines and audio/visual materials not relating to school work;
  • illegal substances of any kind;
  • offensive material (violent or pornographic);
  • infrared hand controllers of any type (including write-watch type devices);
  • mobile phones (if student is required to have a mobile phone with them, these must be left at the office at the start of the day and collected at the end of the day);

- no mobile phones are allowed in class if detected then the student will receive an after school detention;

- repeat offenece will result in the mobile phone being confiscated and returned to parents;

  • large sums of money or valuables;
  • electronic devices such as i-pods, mp3 players, walkman type of cassette recorders, compact disc players;
  • portable digital storage devices such as memory sticks, USBs are allowed, providing they don't allow playing music or video and are used for school work 
  • playing cards, any other toys or small hand-held computer type games;
  • matches or lighters;
  • chewing gum;
  • correction fuid or liquid pen (only correction tape is allowed);
  • any kinds of permanent markers.


Possession of any of the above items will result in a disciplinary punishment.

The School will not be responsible for any property that Students may lose, or have stolen at school. Students are expected to take care of their belongings but shold they have any property removed from thier bags or stolen, they need to report this to the office immidately.


Prohibited items may be confiscated by any member of Staff and passed to the Deputy Principal for safe keepings (held of one term). It is the Students’ responsibility to reclaim their confiscated items to be returned. Confiscated items may be returned to students or parents.
